Criminal or Novelist?

For this task we firstly recapped over how to go about reading images. We were again in groups and were given a quiz sheet that had a number of black and white portraits on. We then had to decide if the person was either a criminal or a novelist from just their picture.

This was a very different way to learn how to look and read into images, but effective, and we were able to learn about a number of things such as... how certain lighting can affect an image, the facial expressions and the position of the head. Also taking into consideration the use of objects and props in the photograph such as cigarettes can help make the decision between criminal or novelist, or so we thought. It was a lot more difficult than we first thought. Many were very deceiving images, with what we thought were novelist, looking very serious and intellectual with glasses for example, turning out to be the criminal.
